The bride’s mother Kari Duane decided to make the best out of a heart-breaking situation and offered he daughter to invite homeless to a festive dinner. After a devastated would-be bride agreed, her mom asked local shelters for help advertising the dinner and around 90 people of all ages showed up.
Mrs Duane said: “When I found out that the wedding would not be taking place, it just seemed like, of course, this would be something that we would do to give back. Even though my husband and I were feeling very sad for our daughter, it was heartwarming to see so many people be there and enjoy a meal.”
Erika Craycraft, who came with her husband Rashad Abdullah and their five children, said: “To lose out on something so important to yourself and then give it to someone else is really giving, really kind.”
Rashad added: “When you’re going through a hard time and a struggle, for you to get out to do something different with your family, it was really a blessing.”
